You’re tougher than you think you are. You can do more than you think you can.
This is the quote that is written on my mental post-it note this week. It’s from the book “Born to Run; A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen”, by Christopher McDougall. McDougall says that it is the motto of Leadville, Colorado. Leadville is the location of the Leadville Trail 100; a grueling 100 mile race through the mountains.
This quote has been more than a post-it note. It’s actually more like a little pebble in my shoe that keeps waking me up to the prophetic moment of the present.
You’re tougher than you think you are. You can do more than you think you can.
It is whispering in my ear; reminding me that I have ideas and visions bigger than what I’m living out.
You’re tougher than you think you are. You can do more than you think you can.
It is a tiny little sliver in my finger that won’t let me forget who I am and who I am called to be.
You’re tougher than you think you are. You can do more than you think you can.
A pebble in my shoe and a sliver in my finger sound more painful than I mean. But, they are not to be ignored. I keep feeling this call push me out of my not-so-comfortable comfort zone.
I think this might have been part of the original, unedited version of what the Angel said to Mary after he told her she would have a baby; young virgin mama that she was. After he gave the “official” message, he surely must have leaned in closer, looked her square in the eyes, and whispered this in a strong, convincing voice. You are tougher than you think you are. You can do more than you think you can.
The prophetic moment of the present. That’s what this quote reminds me. This moment – NOW- is/changes/moves/makes the future. Mary trusted the power of God to work through her physically, mentally, and spiritually in ways that were beyond her imagination and simply unknown to her in the moment. This is incredible.
This is the courage I feel called to right now. I hear the angel leaning in and looking me square in the eyes. I don’t know how God will work through me, but I say; Here am I, servant of the Lord. Let it be with me according to your word.
I hope you are feeling a little pebble in your shoe or a voice in your head, reminding you of you THIS prophetic moment. Right now.
You are tougher than you think you are. You can do more than you think you can.
